NAPTIP Declares Speed Darlington Wanted Over Alleged Rape and Cybercrime

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has declared controversial Nigerian entertainer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, wanted over serious allegations including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking.

In an official notice posted on its Instagram handle on Friday, NAPTIP urged anyone with credible information about the entertainer’s whereabouts to contact the agency immediately via 07030000203 or info@naptip.gov.ng.

The declaration follows Speed Darlington’s failure to honour two invitations by the agency after a viral Instagram video surfaced, where he claimed to have had sex with a 15-year-old girl. The clip, posted on Children’s Day, triggered nationwide outrage, with women’s groups and human rights advocates accusing him of confessing to statutory rape.

In response to the viral content, the Lagos State government reported the case to NAPTIP, prompting the agency to issue a formal summons for Darlington to appear at its Abuja headquarters on May 30, 2025. Despite initially responding with a request to reschedule, the singer failed to show up again on June 26, the date he proposed.

NAPTIP, in a letter signed by top officials, stated that the allegations were of national importance and time-sensitive, warning that the agency would not conform to Darlington’s timeline. After ignoring a second deadline of June 2, the agency escalated the matter by issuing the wanted declaration.

In various social media posts, Speed Darlington dismissed the claims as a “publicity stunt” meant to promote his new music, later calling the confession a “prank.” Still, critics argue that joking about child sexual abuse is damaging and unacceptable.

Behind the scenes, NAPTIP has begun coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to ensure the entertainer is apprehended. According to NAPTIP’s Chief Press Officer, Mr. Vincent Adekoye, the agency is leaving no stone unturned to secure his compliance with the law.

“The DG is monitoring this case closely. This is about the rights of a minor and possible abuse. We are treating it with the seriousness it deserves,” Adekoye stated.

Insiders revealed that NAPTIP is consulting legal experts to determine the next step, especially now that court activities are resuming following a judiciary strike. Officials insist that Darlington’s refusal to cooperate will not stall justice, and warned that no one is above the law.
