POLICE will work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) to track down the source of the email containing a bomb threat to Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).
Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid said an investigation was opened under section 507 of the Penal Code to identify the perpetrators.
He said the police have yet to identify the individual who sent yesterday’s email containing the bomb threat.
“We will ask MCMC and CSM to trace the source of the email,” he said in Kuala Lumpur today.
Yesterday, BNM staff received an email about a bomb that would go off at 3pm. The bomb disposal unit, which was dispatched to bank to inspect the premises, confirmed that the threat was false.
Meanwhile, in another development, Allaudeen said police have so far recorded the statements of 27 peopple to assist in the investigation into the September 16 “Save Malaysia” rally that was held without a permit in Kuala Lumpur.
He said two more people have yet to come forward to have their statements recorded.
“These two people should come forward otherwise we will issue a notice under section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code today. This is our last step to complete the investigation before referring the case to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action,” he said. – Bernama, September 21, 2023.
