Cargo Agency hacked

CARGO Consolidators Agency Ltd has fallen victim to a cyberattack by LockBit, a cybercriminal group known for offering ransomware as a service.

Enterprise Risk and Security consultant Shiva Parasram yesterday revealed to the Express that Cargo Consolidators’ information had been posted on LockBit’s website.

In a WhatsApp exchange yesterday, Cargo Consolidators’ managing director Sean Patience revealed that the security incident was discovered two months ago, and was addressed with the assistance of cybersecurity experts.

He said that the security and privacy of the company’s operations remain their top priority.

“While we cannot disclose specific details, I can confirm that we have successfully implemented comprehensive measures to mitigate the effects of the incident and prevent future occurrences. Our incident response protocols were activated immediately, and we have since strengthened our security infrastructure,” said Patience.

He said the company is continuing to monitor the situation closely.

“We live in a world now where it’s not a matter of if, but when an attack will happen. We all need to be prepared,” Patience said.

Parasram stated that LockBit posted screenshots of ten sensitive information documents to their dark web page.

However, he noted that there was no download link, which is unusual for the group.

“I consider it very fortunate that they didn’t post a download link at this point in time. Based on the images posted, it seems that they are in possession of highly sensitive and confidential information. The information includes personal information of clients, employees and business operations.”

He added that the group is known to cripple businesses which do not pay by damaging their reputation, image, and creating distrust between the companies and their clients.

Cargo Consolidators Agency Ltd, established in 1976, is a full-service freight forwarding, logistics and consolidation company with four Trinidad locations near major production and industrial areas, and near sea and air ports.
