Between 2021 and 2022, millions of South Africans’ personal details ended up in the hands of criminals in 942 incidents of data breaches, but, so far, no one has been punished.

Pansy Tlakula, president of the Information Regulator, confirmed this figure last week. South Africa has one of the highest incidences of data breaches in the world, she says.
