Kanniyakumari District Cyber Crime police arrested two accused from West Bengal, who were involved in a cyber fraud case involving ₹11. 12 lakh.
According to police, the accused were identified as Banti Mondal, 28 and Ujjal Karmakar, 30.
Police said that a man from Aralvaimozhi had applied online for an electric bike dealership through the website given as www.atherelectricdealer.in.
Following this, some unidentified persons contacted through an online messaging application and promised to secure a dealership in Kanniyakumari district.
They allegedly demanded money under various heads including registration fees, NOC charges and license fees.
Believing their claims, the complainant transferred a total of ₹11.12 lakh in multiple instalments. Later, realising that he had been cheated, he lodged a complaint at the Kanniyakumari cyber crime police.
Subsequently, a case was registered and an investigation was launched.
The police team collected the details of bank accounts used in the fraud and traced the location of the accused, and the team travelled to West Bengal to arrest the accused.
Police arrested Banti Mondal and Ujjal Karmakar, who were reportedly hiding there. They were produced before a magistrate court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
