Senegal: Law No. 2008-11 on Cybercrime

Law No. 2008-11 on Cybercrime is Senegal’s primary cybercrime law. It criminalizes a broad range of cyber offences, including unauthorized access to computers, interception of electronic communications, and electronic identity theft. The law also contains provisions on data protection and electronic signatures, among others. It applies to anyone who commits an offence within Senegal or whose conduct causes harm in Senegal.

The law provides severe punishments for those convicted of cybercrimes, including fines and imprisonment. It also establishes procedures for investigating cyber offences, including the seizure and examining electronic evidence. The law also allows for international cooperation in investigating and prosecuting cybercrime offences.

In recent years, there have been calls for revising the law to address new and emerging cyber threats. However, the law remains the primary legal framework for combating cybercrime in Senegal.
